PreCollege Programs seeks to hire faculty and/or staff to teach a summer course(s) for one or more programs each year. Summer employment and leadership opportunities

PreCollege Programs hires UW Oshkosh college students each year to work with middle and high school students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds in one or more summer programs. If you enjoy and/or aspire to work with middle and high school students after graduation and have strong management and leadership skills, working for PreCollege Programs is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and to build your resume. Student employment requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 24 credits from UW Oshkosh and a cumulative GPA of 2.75 prior to official start date of employment with PreCollege Programs
  • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits for the fall semester of 2024
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to stay in the residence halls for the duration of the summer programs (i.e., you are not allowed to stay or leave off-campus while employed with PreCollege Programs)
  • Must have work or volunteer experience and enjoy working with middle and high school students from multicultural and diverse socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and excellent verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and willing to transport students when necessary (strongly preferred)
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong (preferred)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First-Aid certified (preferred)

Team Leader

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the PreCollege Coordinator, if not available, then to the Assistant Coordinator.
  • Enforce the rules, regulations, and policies of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Center for Student Success and Belonging (CSSB)-PreCollege Programs and Residence Life.
  • Create on-campus recreational activities, along with backup activity plans, for all programs. Activities must be outlined in detail and submitted via email attachment to the Assistant Coordinator 48 hours before the start of each Program and copy email to the Coordinator.
  • Implement and oversee on-campus recreational activities according to the outlined information presented to the PreCollege Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.
  • Collect, record, distribute and oversee daily participant cell phone usage.
  • Aid in the purchase of supplies via the distribution of Petty Cash from the Assistant Coordinator and return all remaining cash with proof of purchase to the Assistant Coordinator the same day.  The Team Leader is held responsible for any missing receipts/money and is required to reconcile funds without a receipt (i.e., will have to pay out-of-pocket for missing money).
  • Attend and assist with the precollege registration, orientation and award ceremonies.
  • Maintain an emergency and health binder for all students and staff.
  • Monitor conduct of all summer participants and staff during the precollege programs by knowing the location of participants and staff at all times.
  • Conduct daily evening floor meetings with summer staff and other meetings as required, under the supervision of both the PreCollege Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.
  • Meet with PreCollege Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator and Assistant Team Leader following each daily floor meeting to update and discuss any concerns of the summer program operations.
  • Submit daily reports to PreCollege Coordinator by 9:00 p.m. sharp each day, including accident and incident reports. [Gather Night Host (NH) reports and turn in to Coordinator by 8 a.m. sharp (mandatory for ALL NH to submit daily reports)].
  • Maintain confidentiality and possess the following characteristics:  excellent critical thinking skills, integrity, strong leadership skills, and high professional standards.
  • Follow protocol set out by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Center for Student Success and Belonging (CSSB)-PreCollege Programs, and Residence Life in its entirety.
  • Be a team player and have open communication with the PreCollege Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, Assistant Team Leader, Resident Assistants, and Night Hosts.
  • Attend all mandatory PreCollege Programs training sessions.
  • Be on call until the end of the program(s) (i.e., all staff and participants must have left the campus).
  • Check all rooms, restrooms, halls and common areas in residence halls to ensure that everything is left in good standing before leaving the program/campus.

Assistant Team Leader

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Team Leader.
  • Enforce the rules, regulations, and policies of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Center for Student Success and Belonging (CSSB)-PreCollege Programs and Residence Life.
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader to create on-campus recreational activities, along with backup activity plans, for all programs. Activities must be outlined in detail and submitted to the Assistant PreCollege Coordinator 48 hours before the start of each program and copy email to PreCollege Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader to set-up and coordinate on-campus recreational activities according to the outlined information presented to the PreCollege Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.
  • Collect, disburse, and maintain financial records and transactions of participant monies from the PreCollege Bank.
  • Attend and assist with the precollege registration, orientation and award ceremonies.
  • Monitor conduct of all summer participants and staff during the precollege programs by knowing the location of participants and staff at all times and report to the Team Leader.
  • Assist the Team Leader in conducting daily evening floor meetings with summer staff and other meetings as required, under the supervision of both the PreCollege Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.
  • Meet with PreCollege Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator and Team Leader following each daily floor meeting to update and discuss summer program operations.
  • Assist in the submission of daily reports to PreCollege Coordinator by 9:00 p.m. sharp each day, including accident and incident reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and possess the following characteristics:  excellent critical thinking skills, integrity, strong leadership skills, and high professional standards.

  • Be a team player and have open communication with the Team Leader, PreCollege Coordinator, Assistant PreCollege Coordinator, Resident Assistants, and Night Hosts.
  • Attend all mandatory PreCollege Programs training sessions.
  • Be on call until the end of the program(s) (i.e., all staff and participants must have left the campus).
  • Check all rooms, restrooms, halls and common areas in residence halls to ensure that everything is left in good standing before leaving the program/campus.

Resident Assistant (RA)/Tutor

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Team Leader.
  • Enforce the rules, regulations, and policies of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, PreCollege Programs and Residence Life.
  • Conduct daily bed checks and wake up calls.  Note:  Participants CANNOT be LATE for classes.
  • Supervise students to ensure their safety and accountability at all times.
  • Chaperone and supervise students during class, field trips, and social events.
  • Chaperone and participate in all on- and off- campus activities as instructed by the Team Leader.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with participants at all times (i.e., No Bullying! Have patience and composure in ALL situations).
  • Attend and assist in precollege registration, orientation and award ceremonies.
  • Attend all mandatory Precollege Programs training sessions.
  • Attend all meetings as required with the PreCollege Programs Coordinator and Team Leader.
  • Submit daily reports to Team Leader by 9:00 p.m. sharp each day, including accident and incident reports.
  • Tutor students daily during designated study hour (see class schedules) and monitor homework assignments provided by instructors.
  • Maintain confidentiality and possess the following characteristics:  excellent critical thinking skills, integrity, strong teamwork abilities, and high professional standards.
  • Be a team player and have open communication with Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, Team Leader, Assistant Team Leader, and fellow Resident Assistants and Night Hosts.
  • Follow protocol set out by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Center for Student Success and Belonging (CSSB)-PreCollege Programs, and Residence Life in its entirety.
  • On call until the end of the program(s) (i.e., all participants have left the campus).
  • Check all rooms, restrooms, halls and common areas in residence halls to ensure that everything is left in good standing before leaving the program/campus.

Night Host Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to Team Leader.
  • Enforce the rules, regulations, and policies of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Center for Student Success and Belonging (CSSB)-PreCollege Programs and Residence Life.
  • Conduct daily bed checks for summer participants (i.e., RESPECTFULLY knock on each door and check under beds and in closets for both summer participants and staff) at 10:00 p.m. SHARP.
  • Conduct daily wake up calls at 6:00 a.m. SHARP for both summer participants and staff.
  • Supervise students and staff between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. during weeknights and weekends to ensure safety and accountability of students and staff at all times.
  • Conduct frequent floor rounds to hallways, bathrooms and common areas to ensure participant and staff safety.
  • Required to submit daily reports to the Team Leader by 6:00 a.m. sharp including accident and incident reports for summer participants, including summer staff.
  • Monitor bulletin boards and posters (i.e. to prevent vandalism).
  • Attend all mandatory Precollege Programs training sessions.
  • Be on-call until the end of programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and possess the following characteristics:  integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, strong leadership skills, excellent critical thinking skills, high professional standards and use good judgment at all times.
  • Be a team player and have open communication with the Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, Team Leader, Assistant Team Leader, and fellow Night Host and Resident Assistants.
  • Follow protocol set out by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Center for Student Success and Belonging (CSSB)-PreCollege Programs, and Residence Life in its entirety.
  • Attend and assist with precollege orientation is required for all Night Hosts unless you have worked all night the day before orientation (optional: attendance to award ceremonies).
