This lesson will focus on the art of Tibetan sand mandalas and their significance to Tibetan culture. I started this lesson in my Global Art art class after we saw the Tibetan Sand Mandala exhibit at The Paine. The class will also focus on the social justice issues that are currently existing within Tibet, and students will finish this lesson by completing their own colored pencil mandalas. They will also participate in The Memory Project by sending their own drawings to students in a foreign country and experiencing the power that art has to preserve and connect cultures. They will learn colored pencil and color theory as well.
