Students first learned about the chalk mandalas created by the Tibetan monks who visited the Paine Art Center and Gardens last year. Then students compared that learning with the environmental art by Andy Goldsworthy. They then went outside to create environmental designs using skip counting, balance, symmetry and pattern with natural plant materials. The following art lesson, they created their own mandala on foil using sharpie markers to color in the shapes and lines.
