Hypothes.is Pilot

We are excited to announce UW Oshkosh will be piloting a new learning technology called Hypothes.is for the Spring 2023 term. Hypothes.is is a social annotation tool that will be integrated into Canvas. It will turn any page, article, or website into an opportunity for more meaningful discussion. Students can add notes and comments to the article while they are reading which leads to more authentic engagement with the content and their classmates.

Student Success

Many institutions of higher learning are facing a crisis in student success. One marker of this crisis is the rising rate of students receiving grades of D or F or withdrawing from classes (commonly called the DFW rate).  This initiative will call on all of us to come together as a community, work collaboratively, commit ourselves to new approaches to student success, and incorporate changes into our work with students.

Drs. Viji Sathy and Kelly Hogan, authors of Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Promoting Equity in the College Classroom, will join us remotely to lead a conversation focused on incorporating teaching strategies into class that provide increased structure, promote active learning, improve student engagement, and, thus, increase student success. This kickoff will take place at three sites, with in-person facilitation by the three initiative leaders and the speakers joining remotely via Zoom.
