Master of Business Administration


The Foundations of Business Certificate provides graduate coursework for developing the skills and knowledge of the functional areas of business. A certificate is comprised of foundation/tools courses from the MBA Program that provides background for students with non-business undergraduate degrees. Courses are available in the online and onsite formats.

Certificate Requirements (12.5 – 13.5 credits total)

Required Courses:

  • BUS 709 Accounting Foundations – Financial (2 cr) or BUS 700 Financial Reporting (1.5 cr.)
  • BUS 709 Accounting Foundations – Managerial (1 cr)
  • BUS 750 Organizational Foundations (2 cr.)
  • BUS 770 Marketing Foundations (2 cr.)

Six credits from the following:

  • BUS 769 Foundations of Statistics (2 cr.) or BUS 712 Data Driven Decision Making (1.5 cr)
  • BUS 730 Finance Foundations (2 cr.)
  • BUS 740 Foundations of Production/Operations Management (2 cr)
  • BUS 769 Basic Economic Theory – Micro (1 cr) or BUS 769 Basic Economic Theory – Macro (1 cr) or ECON 704 Managerial Econ (1.5 cr.)


Minimum requirements to take courses:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Additional requirements, including a resume and essay, may be necessary to consider admission.

How to apply for a certificate:

1) Apply for admission. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please complete the international student application materials.  Completing your application requires a non-refundable $56 application fee.  Your application will not be processed until this fee is paid.  Payment can be made online or a check can be mailed to the UW Oshkosh Office of Graduate Studies at the address listed below.  If you also plan to apply to the MBA Program, you can complete a second application at the same time.  A second application fee is not required (as long as you apply within 10 years).  

2) Request and submit official transcripts. To request official transcripts, contact any colleges or universities where you completed undergraduate or graduate coursework. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. Transcripts may be submitted electronically to or mailed to address listed below:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there be a time limit on completing courses for the certificate?

Yes, all coursework must be completed within four years to assure continuity.

Can I use undergraduate coursework towards the certificate?

No, undergraduate coursework will not count towards the certificate.

Is the GRE/GMAT required for a certificate?

No, the GRE/GMAT is not required to pursue a certificate. All courses applied toward a certificate must be taken through UW Oshkosh.

Can I use financial aid to pay for my coursework?

No, students pursuing a certificate are not eligible for financial aid. In order to be eligible for financial aid, students must be degree-seeking.
