Arts in Action
Consider integrating live professional performance at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center (PAC) in Appleton into your UW Oshkosh classes.
Through “Arts in Action”, our partnership with the PAC, UW Oshkosh students have attended powerful performances in peer group settings, enhancing their critical and creative capacities while honing their understanding of classroom concepts.
What is the purpose of the
The partnership is designed to provide practical tools for students’ engagement with the professional performing arts while deepening their understanding of classroom content.
The performing arts have long communicated important issues and challenged dominant paradigms in every branch of learning. The goal of “Arts in Action” is not to suggest that attending Fox Cities PAC performances are more or less valuable than attending artistic performances on campus, but rather to broaden students’ perspectives on the interconnections of their disciplines of study at UW Oshkosh while providing a unique opportunity for experimental learning.
How are performances identified and integrated into the curriculum?
Each year, “Arts in Action” coordinators identify select performances in the Fox Cities PAC season that lend themselves to curricular connection.
Participating instructors can incorporate these performances into their own course objectives and assessment instruments by integrating related texts in class, designing writing assignments, and/or framing classroom discussion around related themes.
What co-curricular options does
One hour before the Fox Cities PAC performance, pre-show discussions by artists or local experts place the event in context, providing further material for classroom consideration.
Likewise, participating artist can come to campus to conduct workshops with UW Oshkosh students. These events can be designed and/or requested in consultation with the program coordinators.
What are the program logistics in terms of cost and transportation?
The Fox Cities PAC offers discounted tickets for UW Oshkosh classes and participating instructors list this cost among the textbook expenses for their course(s). “Arts in Action” coordinators make buses available to transport students to and from Appleton for the performance.
