In centuries-old tradition, faculty and academic staff wear academic regalia as a symbol of their commitment to teaching, research, creative activities and noble service. This attire is symbolic with origins in the Middle Ages.
Faculty and staff may wear their own attire, rent or purchase attire through University Books and More or borrow attire from the commencement office.
Secure Attire for Commencement Ceremony
Academic attire matching your degree and discipline may be rented through University Books and More by calling (920) 424-2381. Please make rental arrangements at least 4 weeks prior to the ceremony.
Custom academic regalia is also available for purchase through our vendor, Jostens. Hoods, tams, and gowns may also be purchased individually.
Please contact University Books and More at (920) 424-2381 to find out more information or to set up an appointment. Custom regalia requires several months lead time for sizing and production.
Academic regalia will be available for faculty and staff to borrow on commencement day. It will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from a stock of attire that has been graciously donated by alumni, retired faculty and staff. Regalia cannot be reserved ahead of time.
volunteer at commencement
Each volunteer will be assigned two jobs: one assisting graduates and guests as they arrive for each ceremony and one during the ceremony. We ask all volunteers to be flexible as needs may change the day of commencement. We will do our best to assign volunteers to their requested jobs.
Greet our graduates upon arrival and check them in for the ceremony. Registration begins one hour prior to the ceremony and ends 10 minutes after the ceremony begins. If you have an affiliation to a particular college, let us know!
Greet families and guests, hand out programs and help answer questions. Volunteers arrive 1.5 hours prior to ceremony and are finished after the processional (approximately 30 minutes after the ceremony begins).
Assist in guiding graduates upstairs into their seats for the ceremony. Ceremony assistants will also guide students onto the stage during the conferral of the degrees and back to their seats once they have crossed the stage. Following the ceremonies, these volunteers will help with cleaning the field house and preparing it for the next ceremony.
