Self-Filming Guidelines

Thank you for agreeing to film yourself for our virtual commencement ceremony. Please follow the simple steps below. If you have any questions about the technology end of things to film yourself please contact us.

You may use your phone or computer, whichever you are most comfortable with. Note that most smart phones have better cameras and microphones than do computers, so phone video is preferred.

  1. Familiarize yourself with the script before filming
  2. Shoot horizontally NOT vertically.
  3. Please record yourself in high definition. (1080×1920 or 720×1280)
  4. Dress for success (students please wear the provided regalia, other guest speakers please wear professional attire)
  5. Film in a well lit, quiet space. Do not film with large windows behind you. Backlighting will cause your camera’s iris to close, making you appear under exposed. Filming from the waist us is perfectly fine.
  6. Do not hold your device while filming. Put your phone or laptop up on a flat surface with the camera at eye level.
  7. Relax and be personable.
  8. Take a pause prior to starting and after filming your speech to allow our editor time to fade your video in and out of the ceremony.
  9. Please upload your final video to the commencement folder.
