Requirements


Criminal Justice Minor
Required Units: 21 units (crs.)

A total of 21 credits are required to complete the criminal justice minor.


Beginning Fall 2020, a new Criminal Justice Minor was adopted.  Existing criminal justice minors (those who were declared CJ minors prior to Fall 2020 will still follow the “old” criminal justice minor; those who declare a Criminal Justice Minor after the beginning of Fall 2020 will follow the new minor).  To determine, which track a student is following check their advising report or contact the Criminal Justice Minor advisor: Dr. Chris Rose (rosech@uwosh.edu).

Criminal Justice Minor (beginning Fall 2020)

A total of 21 credits are required to complete the criminal justice minor. To complete the CJ minor, students are required to complete the following courses:

  • CJ 110: Introduction to the Criminal Justice Process (3 credits)
  • Choose ONE of the following (3 credits): CJ 35-244 (Correctional Process), OR CJ 35-270 (Introductory Criminal Law), OR CJ 35-281 (Elementary Statistics in Criminal Justice Research XM), OR CJ 35-288 Police in Modern Society
  • CJ 312: Management of Criminal Justice Organizations[1] (3 credits) *Currently, this course may still list as CJ 212 on advising reports; after Spring 2020, CJ 212 will change to CJ 312.
  • CJ 318: Adjudication Process in Criminal Justice (3 credits); *Currently, this course may still list as CJ 218 on advising reports; after Spring 2020, CJ 218 will change to CJ 318.
  • CJ 351: Theoretical Criminology (3 credits); *Currently, this course may list as “Theories of Crime” on advising reports; after Spring 2020, the new name “Theoretical Criminology” will appear on advising reports.
  • One Upper Level CJ Elective Course (3 credits)
  • CJ 35-358: Major Criminal Justice Issues (3 credits);  this is a senior capstone course, and should be taken during your final semester before you graduate.


[1] PA 221 (Introduction to Public Administration), which is occasionally offered by the Department of Public Administration can be substituted for the CJ 312 requirement.

Required Courses: To complete the criminal justice minor, students are required to complete the following courses:

  • CJ 110: Introduction to the Criminal Justice Process (3 credits)
  • CJ 212: Management of Criminal Justice Organizations 2 (3 credits)
  • CJ 218: Adjudication Process in Criminal Justice (3 credits)
  • CJ 270: Introduction to Criminal Law (3 credits)
  • CJ 244: Correctional Process (3 credits)
  • CJ 288: Police in Modern Society (3 credits)
  • One Upper-Level CJ Course (300 or higher)
