Faculty Senate met March 9th. In addition to acting on a number of curricular items, Senators agreed to form a joint six member “conference committee” with the Senate of Academic Staff to recommend ways to clarify GOV 6.1, which concerns voting rights for instructional academic staff.  Revising GOV 6.1 is one of several key points in the Faculty Senate response to the Provost’s request regarding immediate recommendations arising from the work of the Instructional Academic Staff Contract Task Force. Senators discussed and provided feedback on a proposal from the Chancellor to form a permanent Strategic Planning Committee. Senators also engaged in a lengthy discussion about an early OSA draft policy regarding the use of laptops and other notetaking technology in classrooms. Updates from Provost’s Admin Staff, Chancellor’s Admin Staff, Leadership Council, Conference on Shared Governance, and UW System Shared Governance Meetings were shared with Senators.
