Year-End Gift Information

The tax year ends at midnight on December 31. Timing your gift at year-end can be crucial. The gift date—the date used for tax purposes—is the day you transfer control of the asset. And that depends on the asset and your method of giving.

Please read the following information to assist you with your year-end giving to the Foundation, and if you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to contact us by email at or by phone at (920) 424-2178 (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday).

Please note that the Foundation is closed December 24-25 and December 31-January 1.

Gifts Made by Credit Card

The IRS has stated that a gift by credit card is deemed to be made on the day the card is charged against the donor’s account (IRS Rev. Rul. 78-38). In order for your credit card donation to the UW Oshkosh Foundation to be considered a tax-deductible charitable donation in the current year, it must be successfully charged (not simply postmarked) to your credit card account before midnight on December 31.

Please note that the Foundation will be closed December 24-25 and December 31-January 1. We are unable to process credit card contributions made via phone or mail on those days.

Instead, please visit to make a secure donation online.

Gifts Made By Check

The IRS has stated that a charitable gift made by check is complete at the time the check is delivered or mailed, and the postmark is evidence of the gift date. Gifts delivered by overnight courier, e.g., Federal Express, UPS, etc., are deemed to have been made when they are delivered. In order for your donation to the UW Oshkosh Foundation to be considered a tax-deductible charitable donation for the current year, it must be received or postmarked on/before December 31. All gifts made by check should be made out to: UW Oshkosh Foundation and can be mailed to:

UW Oshkosh Foundation
625 Pearl Ave.
Oshkosh, WI 54901-3556

In order to further specify how you’d like your gift to be used, please either include a letter specifying the desired designation of your gift, or write your desired gift designation on the memo line of your check.

Gifts of Stock and Securities

For stock delivery instructions, download the Delivery Instructions for Stock Gifts form. Please mail or e-mail completed form to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation, Inc. before the transfer of any stock gifts so proper acknowledgement can be made. Some donations are never identified because donors fail to contact us to let us know what they gave.

When submitting physical stock certificates to the Foundation please complete and attach the Stock Power Form
If securities are sent through US mail, the last date that the stock certificate or stock power is postmarked is the gift date. It is important to send, by registered or certified mail, the unsigned certificates in a separate envelope from the signed stock power and letter of intent.

If securities are electronically transferred to the UW Oshkosh Foundation, the gift date is the day the securities enter our account. As transfers of securities often take several days to accomplish, please begin the transfer as early as possible before the end of the year in order to insure deductibility for the current tax-year.

Please contact Jennifer Klinger for assistance with these gifts. She can be reached at or (920) 424-3457.
