Girls in Engineering, Math and Science (GEMS) and Engineering Adventures in Middle School
The Fox Cities campus of UW Oshkosh is collaborating with UW Platteville Engineering Partnerships for a day of fun and education. Our unique programs will allow participants grades 6–8 to choose various hands-on workshops related to the fields of engineering, math and science.
Join us on Saturday, October 19 on the Fox Cities campus of UW Oshkosh where we will present two programs: Girls in Engineering, Math and Science (GEMS) and Engineering Adventures for Middle School Students. Both events will require advanced registration.
Girls in Engineering, Math and Science (GEMS)
Saturday, October 19, 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m.
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Fox Cities Campus, Barlow Entrance
GEMS is a half-day educational event for girls grades 6 through 8 featuring interactive GEMS-based workshops geared towards career exploration in engineering, math and science.

Kickoff speaker Shelby Zeier
Shelby Zeier is excited to spend the day encouraging fellow “GEMS.”
Passionate about encouraging women to pursue degrees in engineering, math, and science, Shelby is a 2003 graduate of UW Platteville in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Math.
In her 14 years with Kimberly Clark, she has utilized her skills to optimize machines, program operator interfaces, provide training, and design and install new packaging equipment for products like Kotex®, Depend®, Poise®, and Huggies®.
Shelby balances all of these responsibilities while also serving as the “chaos coordinator” for her four children under the age of 13.
Engineering Adventures for Middle School Students
Saturday, October 19, 12–3 p.m.
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Fox Cities Campus, PEP building
Immediately following GEMS, UW-Platteville Engineering Partnerships will offer a FREE event to girls AND boys grades 6 – 8 called “Engineering Adventures for Middle School Students.” Students will solve puzzles and complete adventures while learning about real-world engineering with talented engineers and teachers from around the state.
Sign up online by Wednesday, October 16th.
12–12:30 p.m. Registration and Lunch (adventurers need to be well fueled for what’s ahead)
12:30–1:30 p.m. The First Set of Adventures… (the journey begins)
1:30–2 p.m. Cookies and Swag with Industry (no one should leave without free stuff)
2–3 p.m. The Second Set of Adventures… (the adventure continues)
