With the support of the National Writing Project and its network of over 200 local sites, and in partnership with local districts, the Fox Valley Writing Project offers professional development opportunities for K-12+ teachers in East Central Wisconsin.

The FVWP adheres to a model of “teachers teaching teachers” and encourages collaborative inquiry and shared leadership. Professional development offerings vary from year to year as the needs of school districts, teachers, and students change. Opportunities include book study groups, inquiry groups, an annual Spring Fling, and monthly gatherings of the Teacher Consultant (TC) Community.

From Summer 2012 – Spring 2013, the FVWP partnered with the Appleton Area School District to provide professional development for high school teachers. This program was called ELSAC (Enhancing Learning in Subject Area Classrooms), was funded through a WITQ Grant from the UW System.

Other professional development offerings have included: 2013 Advanced Summer Institute, Washington Writing Institute, Merrill Writing Institute and ADLRS (Advancing Disciplinary Literacy in Rural Schools).

 

In partnership with local school districts, the FVWP offers book study groups for UW Oshkosh credit at off-campus tuition rates.

These study groups are facilitated by FVWP teacher leaders. Contact FVWP for more information.

Made possible by the Expanding our Offerings grant from the National Reading Initiative and the National Writing Project. The professional development inquiry group allows teachers of a common speciality to gather together, share ideas, and improve teaching skills.

Teachers who have completed a Summer Institute at the FVWP are invited to attend monthly Teacher Consultant (TC) Community meetings.

The purpose of these gatherings is to bring us together and to support one another in our continued work as teachers, readers and writers. We hope this community will foster continued collegiality and push us forward as teachers who are passionate about literacy.
