Fall 2019 Geology Club Distinguished Speaker Series guests have been announced

  • Thursday, October 24:  Geology Club Guest Speaker – Joseph Frederickson-  “From giant crocodiles to fish-eating dinosaurs: new insights into the paleoecology of predators from the medial Cretaceous of North America”.
  • Thursday, November 14: Geology Club Guest Speaker – ReBecca Hunt-Foster “Paleontological Resource Management on Public Lands”.
  • Thursday, November 21: Geology Club Guest Speaker – Jordan Lubbers “Using microCT to quantify 3D zoning in sanidine: Implications for magma reservoir processes”.

Refreshments will be served at 4 p.m.

All dates are Thursday; talks will begin at 4:10 p.m. and are held in Harrington Hall Room 217, 845 Elmwood Ave, Oshkosh WI, unless noted otherwise.

 

Congratulations to All Who Participated in Celebration of Scholarship!

Geology students represented the Department impressively at the UW Oshkosh Celebration of Scholarship on April 25, 2019. Five students presented their research posters. Michael Clark’s poster received a Best Paper award.

  • Michael Clark: The origin and composition of the iron-rich Neda Formation, eastern Wisconsin: from ancient oceans to economic iron ore.
  • Zach Henderson: Temporal patterns of crustal reworking over earth history.
  • Daniel Makowsky: Reactivity of carbonate minerals as measure by isotopic exchange.
  • Nicole Salchert: Assessing petroleum reservoir development in the Anadarko basin, Oklahoma.
  • Nicole Salchert: Characterizing magma evolution with crystal cargo chemistry in basalts in the southernmost Cascades.
  • Elijah Schukow: Exploring seasonal variations in fluxes to Gardner Swamp, Door County, Wisconsin.
