English Certificate - Creative Writing

Please Read and Follow all these Instructions Carefully

Creative Writing certificate applicants must submit the following additional materials as soon as possible.

1. Pay the $56 application fee

  • We require the application fee before we will review your application. The application fee cannot be waived, and is non-refundable.
  • After you pay the fee, all UWO graduate school applications for the next ten years are free of charge. We refund your payment if you pay the fee more than once in ten years.
  • Click here to pay. The payment website has a different look than the online application (see the image below).

2. Ask your undergrad institution to electronically send transcripts to UW Oshkosh Graduate Studies.

We need an official, degree conferral transcript for your undergraduate degree:

  • Official means the transcript is sent directly from the institution to UW Oshkosh Graduate Studies. Electronic transcripts are processed most quickly.
  • While we prefer official transcripts for admission decision-making, we can use unofficial transcripts. If you are admitted, we require official transcripts before you begin taking classes. Email unofficial transcripts to GradSchool@uwosh.edu.
  • Degree-conferral means the transcript shows the name of the degree earned and the date it was awarded.

We may not need transcripts from every institution you attended.

  • If your degree conferral transcript contains 80 or more graded credits earned at that institution (this excludes transfer credits), we usually do not need to see transcripts from other institutions. If you earned fewer than 80 credits, send additional transcripts from the most recent institutions you attended until you reach at least 80 credits.
  • You may send transcripts from all institutions.

Special situations:

  • If you attended UW Oshkosh, you do not need to send UWO transcripts.
  • If you attended UW Fond du Lac or UW Fox Valley before Fall 2019, you need to request transcripts.
  • If you are currently finishing your undergraduate degree, send a current transcript now and an official degree conferral transcript when you complete your degree.
  • If you have more than one undergraduate degree, send transcripts for the degree most relevant to English.

3. Email your personal statement to GradSchool@uwosh.edu

  • If you submitted your personal statement in your application, skip this step.
  • Otherwise, email your personal statement of 250-500 words stating why you are seeking admission to the certificate program.

4. Email a 15–20-page manuscript of creative work to GradSchool@uwosh.edu

  • Your manuscript may be of any genre(s): poetry, fiction, drama, or nonfiction prose.

You may email materials to GradSchool@uwosh.edu in one email, or separate emails.

All materials you submit become part of your permanent record at UW Oshkosh and are not returned to you.

How to Check Your To Do List

You should check you To Do List to see which required application materials we have not yet received.

Note: The To Do List only shows items that are submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies and GradSchool@uwosh.edu. Contact your program coordinator to check the status of materials sent to the department.

Step 1: Obtain your TitanWeb username and password.
  • If you are an existing UWO student, log into TitanWeb with your existing credentials.
  • If you are not currently a UWO student, you will receive log-in credentials in an email from GradSchool@uwosh.edu to the email address you used for your application.
    • You will receive the email within 1-3 business days of submitting your application.
    • Log in right away because temporary passwords expire.
    • If you do not receive the email, check your spam or promotions folder first, then email GradSchool@uwosh.edu.

Step 2: Follow Instructions to log into TitanWeb.

  • Go to TitanWeb and click the button “TitanWeb Student Information”.
  • Enter your User ID and Password, select your language, and click Sign In.
  • If you have log-in problems, please call the IT Help Desk.

Step 3: Find Your To Do List on the Student Center

  • Review the yellow highlighted portions of the screen. On the right side of the screen, under the Search for Classes button, you’ll see your To Do List.

Student Center screenshot showing To Do List location

  • Click on any item in your To Do List and you’ll find limited detailed information.
    • You are able to click on each Reference hyperlink to see which references have not responded (see next image).
    • For most other items, clicking the hyperlink will not provide much detail; for specific instructions on what you need to do to resolve these items, check the Next Steps page.
    • If you still have questions, email GradSchool@uwosh.edu. Please do not email the Contact name on the To Do Item Detail page.

Graduate Application Fee
    • A graduate application fee is due for all applications except: Concurrent Enrollment Instructors; Courses for General Studies; Educational Leadership Cohort; Teaching & Learning Cohort.
    • The fee is due before your admission materials are reviewed. For programs where we contact your references, we will contact references after the application fee is paid.
    • After the fee is paid, additional applications submitted during the next ten years may be submitted without an additional application fee.
    • If your To Do List includes Graduate Application Fee, log into the online application system to pay by credit card. For other payment methods, email GradSchool@uwosh.edu.
