Fond du Lac Campus Tutoring

The Center for Academic Resources (CAR) provides free tutoring for undergraduate students currently enrolled in courses at the Fond du Lac campus. One-to-one tutoring is an opportunity for students to work individually with a peer tutor to increase content knowledge and understanding of course material. 
Tutors are students who have already taken the course and earned a B+ or higher at UWO, Fox Cities, or Fond du Lac. They have also been recommended by their instructors and completed tutor training.

The UW Oshkosh Fond du Lac Campus Emergency Grant is available to students with an unexpected financial crisis that would cause a student to not complete the term, such as unexpected medical expenses, car repair, travel expenses for a family emergency or replacement of items due to loss or damage. The Undergraduate Advising Resource Center (UARC) houses Professional Academic Advisors and a team of Peer Advising Liaisons or PALs. Advisors help students explore majors, select appropriate courses, develop degree completion plans, connect to campus resources and co-curricular opportunities and adopt the habits required for success. PALs are upper class students with extensive training to answer a wide array of advising and registration related questions. Advisors and PALs teach students the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully navigate university resources, policies and requirements independently. Students at UW Oshkosh start with a professional academic advisor in the UARC and eventually transition to a faculty advisor in the department of their major.

In addition to Polk’s selection of more than a half million books, media titles and primary source collections on the shelves, students have borrowing privileges across the UW System, which boasts one of the 10 largest academic library collections in the country. Polk Library has an all-electronic journal collection of more than 54,000 titles. The professional academic librarians and staff are available to help students navigate their academic research. In addition to visiting classes for instruction sessions, staff are available for students in person, via chat, email, phone or one-on-one consultations. The Library is open over 90 hours per week and is a great place to work on assignments and study in a variety of environments. Find quiet study areas for solo work, workspaces for group projects and even private, tech-equipped study rooms.

Student Support Services (SSS) and Student Support Services STEM (SSS STEM) offer eligible students individualized assistance in the areas of: academic advising, strategies for academic success, career and major exploration, personal support, connections to campus resources, and financial aid and literacy. First-year students participate in a Learning Group which is led by upper-class SSS students. To take part in SSS and SSS STEM, students must be citizens or nationals of the United States or meet the residency requirements for Federal Student Financial Aid. They must also meet one of the following criteria: first-generation college student (neither parent has a four-year college degree) and/or the family has limited income. Students with documented disabilities may also be served. SSS and SSS STEM are TRIO programs funded through the U.S. Department of Education.

The Center for Academic Resources (CAR) provides free one-on-one and small-group tutoring as well as Supplemental Instruction services for UW Oshkosh undergraduate students.
Tutoring benefits include individualized learning experiences, improved study strategies as well as increase in knowledge and understanding of material. CAR offers content tutoring where students work with a trained and faculty recommended peer tutor who has taken and been successful in the course. The CAR website lists the numerous 100- and 200- level courses for which support is available. Finally, Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions are held within larger 100- and 200-level lecture courses. Leaders conduct group review sessions each week that are centered on what you need to know to do well in the course. Supplemental Instruction Leaders re-attend lectures and work closely with course instructors to determine the focus of each week.

The Writing Center at the Oshkosh campus offers undergraduate and graduate students a relaxed, friendly place to receive feedback. Trained coaches offer one-to-one support in person or online for work in a variety of classes and formats, from papers to speeches and presentations. They work with students of all skill levels at every stage of their project: from understanding an assignment and brainstorming, to planning and researching, to drafting and polishing.

The mission of the Financial Aid Office is to provide current and helpful financial information to students and families such as understanding the financial aid process including determining eligibility, applying for financial aid and additional financial assistance. The Financial Aid office offers a variety of assistance sources to help students meet their financial needs while attending college.

Types of Financial Aid

  • Grants: As a form of need-based financial aid, grants do not need to be repaid.
  • Loans: Loans are borrowed funds that must be repaid, with interest.
  • Scholarships: Based on many factors—including academic, talent, achievement and financial need—scholarships are awards that do not need to be repaid, provided the enrollment period is completed.
  • Work-Study: The federal work-study program finances jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses.

The Office of International Education (OIE) organizes life-changing global opportunities for UWO students on campus, in the U.S., and globally. UWO ranked #19 among U.S. Master’s Colleges and Universities in the total number of students who studied abroad on short-term programs in 2015/2016. The OIE offers over 80 programs for students; highlights include nursing clinicals and student teaching abroad. The Center for Student Success and Belonging (CSSB) is dedicated to the academic growth and personal development of UW Oshkosh students comprising first-generation, low-income, students of color, women, and LGBTQ+ students. The UWO Counseling Center services all three campuses.  We provide a hybrid model of services that includes in person and virtual counseling services.  Our therapeutic model is based on helping the student flourish, which means to feel good and function well.  Services offered include individual and group counseling, crisis services, wellness workshops, mindfulness practices, restorative yoga, student success coaching, career exploration, AODA ReCenter program, training, outreach, and consultation.  We also provide after-hours emergency services through UW System 24/7 Mental Health Support Services.

Advocates for students and creates a space for students to be heard, valued, and validated. This office serves as the first step for students when they do not know where to turn, works to ensure a safe and inclusive community for students and works to protect the integrity of the university community.

The Dean of Students Office has a network called Student Care Team (SCT), focused on prevention and early intervention for students who are experiencing distress. The office also manages student accessibility accommodations for students with disabilities, Late Withdrawals and Late Drops from courses due to extenuating circumstances, Out of Class Letters for absences beyond three days due to personal or medical circumstances and assists with Bias Incidents Reports.

Black Student Union (BSU) The purpose of the Black Student Union is to create a positive African American voice on campus and in the community. Campus for Awareness and Relationship Education (CARE) is a peer education group consisting of female and male ally students focused on raising awareness and preventing dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment on campus. Peer Educators provide educational programs about Healthy Relationships, Consent, Sexual Rights and how to be a Male Ally. In addition to serving as a campus resource on the topic of relationship violence, CARE offers presentations that are available to all university student groups, classes and community organizations. 

 

Gentlemen of Excellence (GOE) is a social and cultural student-led group committed to improving the personal and professional growth of male students in the areas of leadership development, and service projects in the Oshkosh community. Through programming directed at the building of self-esteem, self-determination, and conference attendance, GOE promote effective means of collaboration with other groups—on campus, locally and regionally—leading to greater outreach and engagement of male students. Training – S.A.F.E.

Help make UW Oshkosh a safer and more welcoming place for the LGBTQ+ community by participating in S.A.F.E. Training (Students, Staff and Faculty for Equality). Participants take part in a three-hour, interactive workshop designed to introduce LGBTQ+ terms, culture, challenges often encountered by LGBTQ+ people, and how to be an effective ally both in and out of the classroom.
