Beginning January 1, 2022, all employees in UW System Building Trades positions are eligible to receive the employer share of the monthly premium for State Group Health Insurance (like other UW faculty and staff). This change also enables all building trades employees who choose a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) to be eligible to receive the monthly state contribution towards your Health Savings Account (HSA) or for those employees who decline state health insurance, to apply to receive the $2,000 Opt-Out stipend.
Communications and Choosing a Health Plan
UW System Shared Services will provide additional information in the next few weeks regarding this year’s Annual Benefits Enrollment period. You can begin learning more about the State Group Health Insurance plan options by visiting How to Choose Your Group Health Insurance Plan.
How do you enroll in the insurance?
You will be able to enroll in health insurance during the Annual Benefits Enrollment (ABE) period that runs from September 27 through October 22, 2021 via self-service. If currently enrolled in state health insurance, you will no longer have to pay the full premium starting in January of 2022.
Assistance with questions and enrollments will be available. Watch your email for announcements from firstname.lastname@example.org for how to set up an appointment with the UWO Benefits Specialist during ABE.
We are very pleased that this change is being made to ensure all faculty and staff are offered an affordable, quality health care option. This change provides a more affordable opportunity to meet your health care needs. We invite you to begin learning more about the health insurance offerings and look forward to working with you throughout this enrollment period.
