Miles Maguire has a master’s of business administration from Loyola University Maryland and a bachelor’s of arts (cum laude) in English from the University of Maryland College Park.
He has worked on newspapers, magazines and newsletters in a variety of cities, including Baltimore, Milwaukee, New York and Washington. He teaches courses in writing, editing, reporting, media law and film.
His scholarship has appeared in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Newspaper Research Journal, Journal of Applied Journalism and Media Studies, Journal of Media Economics and Journal of Information Technology & Politics. He is the author of Advanced Reporting: Essential Skills for 21st Century Journalism (Routledge, 2015)
Maguire was the founding editor of the Oshkosh Community News Network, a nonprofit online news organization whose work was cited as a notable innovation in journalism in the 2005 Knight-Batten Awards. In 2011 he received the Susan L. Greenberg Research Prize, which is given annually in the field of literary journalism.
Maguire covers City Hall for the Oshkosh Independent and serves as an associate editor of Literary Journalism Studies.
