Note: This page describes the Making Mathematical Connections programs that ran from 2009-2012 and from 2015-2017. Making Mathematical Connections is a three-year program.

Year One (Number and Algebraic Thinking)

Time Duration Activity
June 9, 2015 Half day Workshop for taking baseline surverys and assessments for our program’s evaluation
June 10, 2015 Half day Opening Workshop on Mathematical Thinking and Problem Solving, and begin teacher/faculty dialog on Common Core
July 13-17, July 20-24, 2015 10 full days Two-week Summer Institute on Number and Algebraic Thinking, Common Core Mathematical Practices, and Children’s Thinking/Common Mathematical Misconceptions.
2015-16 academic year 8 hours Classroom Projects and collaboration during district-provided in-service time
Fall 2015 4 hours Content-Focused Coaching by math faculty including a classroom visit, and pre- and post-lesson conferences.
January 2016 Half Day Workshop during in-service time with focus on implementing classroom lessons in Number and Algebraic Thinking

Year Two (Geometry and Measurement)

June 2016 Half day Workshop for assessments for our program’s evaluation
July 2016 10 full days Two-week Summer Institute on Geometry and Measurement, Ratios and Proportional Reasoning, Common Core Mathematical Practices, and Children’s Thinking/Common Mathematical Misconceptions
Academic Year 2016-17 8 hours Fall Classroom Projects and collaboration during district-provided in-service time
Fall 2016 4 hours Content-Focused Coaching by math faculty including a classroom visit, and pre- and post-lesson conferences.
January 2017 Half Day Workshop during in-service with focus on implementing classroom lessons in Geometry and Measurement, Ratios and Proportional Reasoning

Year Three (Probability, Data Analysis, and Proportional Reasoning)

June 2017 Half day Workshop for assessments for our program’s evaluation
July 2017 10 full days Two-week Summer Institute on Probability, Data Analysis, and Proportional Reasoning, Common Core Mathematical Practices, and Children’s Thinking/Common Mathematical Misconceptions
