Advising

All mathematics majors are assigned to a member of the mathematics faculty. Initially, the mathematics department chairperson assigns advisors. The list of advisors and their paired advisees is available in the mathematics department office, Swart 115. If, for any reason, math majors want to choose their own advisor or to change advisors, they need to contact the chairperson of the department.

A major’s advisor can be contacted throughout the semester. It is required that every math major contact his or her assigned advisor prior to scheduling for all semesters after the first semester. At this meeting, the advisor and advisee will discuss the student’s class schedule and future plans in the major. Mathematics minors are not assigned specific advisors. However, the chairperson is available to all minors for any questions.
