The mathematics department offers a mathematics minor, as well as minors that specialize in operations research, statistics, mathematics for secondary teaching, and mathematics for elementary and middle school teaching.

 


Mathematics Minor

Recommended for students who are majoring in fields related to Mathematics such as Business, Computer Science, Economics, Natural Sciences, Physical Sciences.

Required Units (crs.): 24 minimum

Required Courses:

  • Mathematics: Core Mathematics Courses
  • Mathematics: Math 273 and Math 301

Electives: Selected from the mathematics department’s Upper Level Course List to meet the minimum unit (credit) requirement.

 


Operations Research Minor

Recommended for students who are majoring in Business, Computer Science, Physical Sciences or similar fields.

Required Units (crs.): 26 minimum

Required Courses:

  • Mathematics: Mathematics 171, 172, 222, 256 and 301
  • Business: Business 341
  • Supply Chain Management: SCM 342 and 460
    Please Note** Mathematics 206 and 106 together may be substituted for Mathematics 171 with the consent of the mathematics department chair.

Statistics Minor

Recommended for students who are in the areas of Business, Computer Science, Education, Mathematics, Natural Science, Physical Science and Social Science.

Required Units (crs.): 26 minimum

Required Courses:

  • Mathematics: Mathematics 171, 172, 222, 256, 301 and one course from Mathematics 302, 304, 305, 381, 385, 386

Electives: Selected from the following list to meet the minimum unit (credit) requirement.

  • Mathematics: Mathematics 302, 304, 305, 381, 385, 386, 401
  • Economics: Economics 472, 473
  • Business: Business 341
  • Supply Chain Management: SCM 342, 460

Please Note**

  • Mathematics 206 and 106 together may be substituted for Mathematics 171 with the consent of the mathematics department chair.
  • Mathematics majors with an emphasis other than statistics who wish to earn a minor in statistics must have a minimum of 52 units (crs.) in Mathematics and Statistics approved by the Statistics advisor. 

Mathematics Minor for Teaching

Recommended for students who are earning a degree in Secondary Education and are planning to teach mathematics or a related field.

Required Units (crs.): 25 minimum

Required Courses:

  • Mathematics 110, 213, 171, 172, 222, 413, 415
    Please Note** Since the upper level courses are not necessarily offered at regularly-spaced times, it is important that interested students declare the minor no later than their sophomore year.

Mathematics Minor for Elementary and Middle School Licensure

Recommended for students who are earning a degree in Elementary Education, and are interested in teaching Elementary or Middle School Mathematics (Early Childhood through Middle School, or Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence certification).

Required Units (crs.): 23 minimum

Required Courses:

  • Mathematics 110, 211, 213, 490; plus three courses from: Mathematics 317, 319, 413, and 415.
    Please note** Since the upper level courses are not necessarily offered at regularly-spaced times, it is important that interested students declare the minor no later than their sophomore year.
