Sunday, September 30 – Saturday, October 6, 2018

Famous Swedish pianist Matti Hirvonen is making two stops on his upcoming trip to the United States: the renowned Juilliard School in New York City, and University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Of his visit, Hirvonen says, “since my ancestry is Finnish, my native country is Sweden, and I work in Norway, it is fun to be a representative of my part of the world, whose inhabitants also populate the proud state of Wisconsin in such a clear way.” He will be in residence at UWO for one week as part of the Oshkosh Nordic Music Festival. The event is sponsored by the UWO Department of Music, the American Scandinavian Foundation, Finlandia Foundation, and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.

Hirvonen is currently on the faculty of the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and is considered one of the foremost interpreters of the Scandinavian repertoire. He regularly collaborates with well known singers in Sweden and Norway, including Nina Stemme and Ida Falk Winland, among many others. He is a frequent guest at festivals throughout Europe, such as Edinburgh and Aix-en Provence. He performs at major venues such as the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Luxemburg, Oper Frankfurt, and Weill Recital Hall in New York.

All events are free and open to the public.
