Student Employment

The Department, on occasion, may have openings for student positions within the department: office workers, music library, and ushers / stage crew. Ushers / stage crew put in the majority of their hours on evenings and weekends according to their availability.

Due to budgetary constraints, we attempt to hire the majority of our student workers from those who have been awarded work study money. If we cannot acquire enough employees with work study eligibility, we will consider hiring those students in the Student Assistant category so that all positions will be filled.

Please apply for jobs using Handshake. We ask that you also submit our Student Application Form. It should be uploaded to Handshake at the time you apply, or emailed to elmera@uwosh.edu. We will also accept via fax to (920) 424-1266 or mailed to the UW Oshkosh Department of Music, Attn: Student Employment, 800 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh, WI 54901.

Current Openings (Please fill out application above for all positions. See Handshake for full job descriptions):

  • Work Study – Music Stage and Usher Crew
    Job Description and Qualifications:
Usher: Usher duties will look a little different this year due to Covid. Certain concerts will allow guests to attend only if they’ve been invited, so you would be checking their names off a predetermined list. We are not charging admission this semester, but have a donation box for scholarships. Guests should not be allowed to mingle in the lobby, but instead be directed to take a seat inside the hall. After each concert, guests should be released starting with rows closest to the exits. Cleanup includes helping the stage person to disinfect the area if necessary.
Stage Crew: Set up stage and make changes in Music Hall for student and faculty performers. This includes lighting, moving pianos and other instruments, music stands, and chairs. Maintain backstage area and dressing rooms. Open all doors prior to performances and lock after all performers and ticket holders have left the Hall area. The department will go over the timing of this to allow for air exchange between rehearsal and the performance. Help to disinfect stands, piano keys, etc.
Must be available nights and some weekends. Hours will vary depending on your availability. Job duties may be updated as we start holding events. Depending on the virus activity level on campus, events may also be cancelled.
  • STEP/Work Study – Music Computer Lab Assistant
The person(s) in this position will be responsible for general support in the Music Computer Lab. Tasks will include opening, closing, and supervising the computer lab, and helping students use the equipment and software as needed. Student must be cordial to visitors, and have a helpful and positive attitude. We are looking for 1 student to cover shifts scheduled between 4:00pm-9:00pm, Sunday-Friday, possible Saturday hours, and will average about 10 hrs/week. Job can be continued for as long as you remain a student, obtain Work Study, and meet the required qualifications; hours will be adjusted to fit your new class schedule each semester.
