“God Sphere”

by Ryan Thomas

Ryan Thomas

Senior, Music Business and Recording Technology

Introduction

The inspiration behind “God Sphere” was to create a 3 track EP with a song that is over 7.5 minutes long in under two weeks. I composed this track and EP during my last two weeks of being at UW Oshkosh and release the album the day I walked on graduation. Through this track I wanted to convey a spacey but relaxed vibe while taking a journey to many perspectives; such as school or life. For this I mostly used the computer lab computers using ProTools and MIDI composing techniques such as synthesis and programming.

Ryan currently has tenure in the groups Shield the Survivors, Scarlet, Amillennial, Xenoblood and his solo electronic releases. Ryan holds a degree in Music Business/Recording Technology from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and is currently endorsed by Scorpion Percussion.

About The Process

I basically took tracks and found sounds I really liked and just composed in a free thought process. I used music theory but did not think about certain chord progressions. I just did whatever I thought that the music needed and sounded good. I also took apart of the solo section to to improvise a solo that I felt along with the programmed solos. I tried to incorporate elements that would make my music stand out such as odd time signarures (5/4 or 11/4) as well as different textures and layers.
