This workshop is designed to, in a safe, respectful, and confidential space, encourage the development of a cultural conscious lens used to serve individuals, families, and communities. Participants will have the opportunity to learn new information, start some new conversations, identify bias, and increase culturally sensitive practice behaviors and manners.

Some highlights of the workshop will include:

  • Learning to identify dimensions and the unique intersections of diversity in others and themselves.
  • Practicing self-awareness and identifying conscious and unconscious bias.
  • Learning to identify and respond to current and projected demographic changes in the United States.
  • Providing culturally sensitive practices when working with people from all walks of life.
  • Examining ways to build positive intercultural communication practices with clients, patients and colleagues.

This foundational experience will increase diversity awareness and competence through an inclusive and experiential learning approach to building professional cultural competence.

Audra Eggum, BSW, MSW, LCSW, is a Social Work instructor at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and a community outpatient mental health provider. Eggum specializes in working with the LGBTQIAP+ community, trauma recovery, and holistic health at The Growing Tree Counseling & Wellness.
