K.E.Y. Programs • Caregiving for the Sandwich Generation
Caregiving for the Sandwich Generation
Wednesdays, March 8 and 15, 2017 from 1 – 3 p.m.
Evergreen
1130 N. Westfield St., Oshkosh, WI
An estimated 44 million caregivers find themselves “sandwiched”
The “sandwiched” caregiver must care for their own immediate family while also providing unpaid assistance and support to family members who are either older adults and/or adults with disabilities. It can be a stressful and difficult position.
Caregivers often report high rates of depression and anxiety, because their personal activities and social life are restricted and they feel powerless to control their own life as well as make significant changes for the person they are caring for. The result is that caregivers’ own mental and physical health becomes compromised.
Learn to care for yourself and your loved ones in a more manageable way.
This course will give caregivers the tools they need to care for themselves while providing support to a loved one. The two-part course focuses on relationships, self-care, and resources for caregivers. Participants will learn strategies for:
- Maintaining and strengthening your relationships when caregiving
- Self-care and emotional management
- Coping with the varied and demanding roles
- Accessing community resources
This course will also assist caregivers in getting all paperwork and documentation in place to help make medical and other ends of life decisions for the family member in need. This course will provide many opportunities for discussion.
