Grandparents University

Instructor Colleen McDermott conducts biology course at Grandparents University

GPU ’21 UPDATE: We are hoping to hold some version of our Grandparents University in July 2021 whether it is in-person or virtual. UW Oshkosh is accessing the risk and feasibility of hosting this event. In the meantime, keep visiting to see past events and join our mailing list to keep updated on summer 2021 plans.

Grandparents University is a summer academy that brings grandparents and their grandchildren, ages 8–12, together for two fun-filled days of education and exploration.

Stay overnight in the new Horizon Village residence hall, eat meals together at Blackhawk Commons and explore campus. Make memories together as you and your grandchild learn and grow.

Please join our mailing list for program updates.

Choose one of our exciting majors:

Amazing Astronomers

Explore space as you learn about light and gravity. Get an idea for how big and vast space really is. Investigate what actually causes the phases of the moon. During Day 2, learn how to launch a rocket.

Awesome Artists

Amaze yourself as you transform various materials into a work of art! Learn how professional artists install and show their artwork, and have your own art piece exhibited in the Gail F. Steinhilber Gallery in Reeve Union.

Tech Titans

From the fundamentals of computer programming to the techniques to create an app you learn more about how computers work.

Animal Adventurers

Have fun with animals! Learn from those who work behind-the-scenes at the Menominee Park Zoo and find out what it takes to handle animals every day. You also will learn firsthand how a veterinarian cares for our favorite, furry friends.

Spectacular Scientists

Spectacular opportunities for aspiring scientists include studying the human body’s amazing circulatory and respiratory systems, analyzing the magnificent world of microbes, earth’s smallest organisms, and discovering how animals adapt to the world around us.

Two days of hands-on learning and fun

Grandparents and their grandchildren will attend courses within one of our four “majors,” have fun around campus and spend quality time with each other. Courses are exciting and appropriate for children ages 8–12. All lessons are taught by local professionals.
