This study is a critical step in understanding how sport specialization and somatic growth interact to impact athlete performance. This information is important for coaches, athletic trainers, parents, and youth athletes, so that youth sport stakeholders can best advice on when the most appropriate time is to start specializing in a sport. Additionally, in the short term, this study will help stakeholders know if youth athletes are currently waiting to specialize after their growth spurts or not.
