Teaching the Five Senses

Finnley Jessogne

Junior, Early childhood and special education

Abstract

The curriculum I designed for students in preschool and kindergarten has the central focus on five senses as the learning target. This five day unit will focus on one of the five senses each day as a strategy to implement Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math known as the S.T.E.A.M. method. As the subject emphasis, each sense correlates with one of the STEAM methods which include Science and Tasting; Technology and Hearing; Engineering and Feeling; Arts and Smelling; Math and Seeing. Throughout the unit students will use each of their senses during the corresponding activity. For my science specific section, students will be predicting the flavors of different jelly beans by using their taste. For more details into our lesson plan, see the “Unit Overview” portion.
