Assault – Strong Armed Robbery

An incident of concern to students, staff and faculty recently occurred near campus. The incident did not take place on campus or in University Police jurisdiction. Due to the incidents relatively close proximity to campus and in the interest of safety, with the belief that an informed community is a safer community, we are notifying you of the following incident.

On 08/28/09 at about 10 p.m., a University Police Officer was summoned to a residence hall regarding a report of an attempted strong armed robbery. A UWO student had been walking along the riverfront and proceeded North on Summit Avenue. As the student neared the Congress Street intersection, they were approached and stopped by two individuals who demanded money.

The student was struck several times in the face and knocked to the ground by one of the subjects. The student managed to kick their way free of the individual who at this time was holding them and flee. The student received bruises around their eyes and face but is expected to fully recover.

The suspects in this incident are described as two white males around 21 years of age. One suspect was about 6’1″ tall with a muscular build and wearing a black shirt and jeans. The second suspect was shorter, about 5’10” tall, average build and wearing a white collared zip front sweatshirt and jeans.
