UW System 2022 Regent Scholar Award
John Chan is an assistant chemistry professor who earlier this year earned UW System’s Regent Scholar Award, a recognition for faculty members who put forth extraordinary efforts in support of undergraduate research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Chan was honored for a project called A Novel Chemotherapy To Treat Parasitic Flatworms Causing Human and Animal Disease, done in collaboration with UW-Milwaukee organic chemistry professor James Cook. The project’s aim is to optimize a novel chemical compound Chan and collaborators discovered capable of curing parasitic flatworm infections.
Chan earned a bachelor’s degree in genetics, cell biology and development from the University of Minnesota and a doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Minnesota Medical School.
