Summer Camps 2018


….FULL… STEM Outreach Day Camps June 26 – 28 , 2018,   9 AM – 4 PM daily on the UWO campus in Halsey Science Center

These are fun, hands-on day camps for girls and boys entering grades 2 – 5. Cost is $40 for each one-day session.

Tuesday, June 26, 2018 :: THAT’S GROSS!  If it’s squishy, sticky, or downright disgusting we’ll explore it.  Get messy and bring home several gooey slimes and plenty of other things to gross out your parents.

Wednesday, June 27, 2018 :: BUILD IT – With the help of local engineers, you will design, build, and test contraptions including rockets, cars, bridges, and more!

Thursday, June 28, 2018 :: LET’S GROW – It’s time to get dirty!  Dig into what makes plants grow and thrive, then make an herb garden to take home.

…FULL..  First Lego League Bootcamp:  July 16-19 and July 23 – 26, 2018,   9 AM – 3 PM daily on the UWO campus

(We have reached capacity for both sessions.  Please check the Oshkosh Rec Dept Summer 2019 guide for next year’s offerings)

This is a camp for girls and boys entering grades 4 – 8. No prior Lego League experience needed.

The camp is designed to be a fun and hands-on learning experience where students:
*explore the CORE values of First Lego League (FLL)
*acquire research skills to assist them in collecting information about the 2018/19 topic “Into Orbit”
*and meet with professionals in space exploration

Camp organizers will contact all applicants after April 8 to let them know of their application status.


 

Tech Titans:  July 31 – August 2,   8:30 AM – 4:30 PM  the UWO campus;  $250

Tech Titans is a three-day commuter academy (no overnight) for girls entering 6th – 10th grade. Here girls will  design and create their own functional mobile applications from start to finish. Participants will work in small teams to plan, develop and program their apps using Android tablet devices. The academy is centered on tutorial-based instruction, so students will learn as they create!

Tuition includes lunch and snack each day, an Android tablet to keep, and a t-shirt.

Basics in Forensic Anthropology Methods:  June 13, 2018,   9 AM – 3 PM  the UWO campus;  $65

This one-day, hands-on course introduces high school students to how forensic anthropologists can contribute to death investigations.  Topics covered include estimating sex, race and age;  determining the cause and manner of death; determining forensic significance and estimating postmortem interval.  The course includes short instructional lectures, hands-on activities and quizzes for each topic.

Pizza and soda will be provided for lunch.

Space is limited to 24 partcipants

This camp is being offered by the Forensic Anthropology Institute and Dr. Jordan Karsten.

A variety of camps for students in grades K – 12 who are looking to develop and enhance their writing skills.
