Program Withdrawal

If you must withdraw from your study abroad program, please carefully read the information below. Participants are subject to the withdrawal and refund policy associated with the UW Oshkosh-sponsored study abroad program. Because this is a financial contract between you and the university, it is in your best interest to read this.

Please note, your withdrawal from a program is not official until the Office of International Education receives your withdrawal request and the participant confirms their withdrawal status has been noted with the OIE department.
How do I withdraw from a study abroad/away program?

STOP!  Before following the instructions below, see “If I withdraw from a study abroad program, how much money will I lose?” in the “fees” section of your program’s web guide.

Log in to your on-line application and complete the following IN THIS ORDER.  (If you reverse the order, only one of the two steps will be possible.)

  1. Use the “add comment” box to confirm your withdrawal in writing. The intention to withdraw must be clearly stated. Messages such as “I am thinking about withdrawing,” “I may withdraw if,…,” or “I will withdraw from this program if it costs me more than…” do not clearly state an intention to withdraw. An example of a clearly stated intention to withdraw is “Please withdraw me from the study abroad program to (place) as of (date). I no longer plan to participate.”
  2. Click on the purple “withdraw” button.
  3. It is the responsibility of the person sending the withdrawal to the OIE to confirm that the withdrawal has been received by the OIE.  You can confirm your withdrawal by calling the OIE at 920-424-0775.
What is the effective date and time of my withdrawal?

The effective date and time of your withdrawal is the date on which the OIE receives the withdrawal notification. It is not the date on which the withdrawal is sent.

When you submit an on-line comment or click on the purple “withdraw” button in your on-line application, this generates an email message to the OIE.  The effective date and time for your withdrawal is the date and time at which the email message is opened.

It is the responsibility of the person sending the withdrawal to the OIE to confirm that the withdrawal has been received by the OIE.  You can confirm your withdrawal by calling the OIE at 920-424-0775.
