Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine last week, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh will hold a panel discussion Wednesday evening, March 2 in Sage Hall 1210.

Current Events in Context: War in Ukraine will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., with UWO faculty/staff panelists Jordan Karsten, anthropology; Ula Klein, women and gender studies; Trisha Jenz ’18, anthropology; Karl Loewenstein, history; and Tracy Slagter, political science.

The discussion, which will be open to the public and available online with Zoom, will be moderated by Michelle Kuhl, history professor.

As an undergraduate at UWO, Jenz traveled with Karsten to Ukraine four times on archaeological excavations between 2016 and 2018. She now works as a project manager in the archaeology lab at UWO.

UWO held a similar event amidst the revolution in Ukraine in 2014.

“This series embraces the Wisconsin Idea that the University has a mission to share our knowledge with our students and the wider community. We bring together faculty with expertise in multiple fields to bring greater understanding of complex events,” Kuhl said.

“UWO is proud to be part of a century-long tradition of using education to preserve and strengthen democracy,” Kuhl added. “At a time when democracy is under threat and millions of lives are at stake in Ukraine, this mission is more important than ever.”
