Luiza Nelson, a junior social science major on track for a secondary education license at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, will take part in a student panel discussing experiences in higher education during the pandemic this month in Chicago.

Luiza Nelson

The keynote block is part of the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) professional conference March 13-17 at the Sheraton Grand Chicago hotel. The conference is billed as “four days of learning, networking and inspiration.”

Nelson, a member of the Honors College, is one of four students who will discuss being a college student during a pandemic—speaking on the obstacles, victories and suggestions for the future—on March 15. She’ll bring the perspective of a non-traditional student and mother of three from Appleton who began taking classes in fall 2020.

She’ll be joined on the panel by Róisín Burke of Mary Immaculate College in Ireland, Gabi Gies of the University of Arkansas and Tiffany Howard of the University of South Alabama.

The nonprofit ACUI’s mission is to support its members in the development of community through education, advocacy and the delivery of services. For more information on the organization and its conference, visit acui.org.
