I am honored to have joined the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Nursing on July 1 and work alongside remarkable individuals who share a vision of preparing a diverse population of scholarly nurse leaders who will revolutionize healthcare through service, innovation and excellence in clinical practice.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of meeting our faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the college and learned about the outstanding work they are doing, some of which you will read about in this magazine.

This issue of CONtact magazine highlights our growing Doctor of Nursing Practice program—there were nearly 60 DNP graduates at 2022 spring commencement alone. Need is great and more nursing students are choosing the path toward earning a DNP, the highest level of education in specialized advanced nursing practice.

You may have heard the 2022-23 academic year features a large and diverse group of CON hires. Besides myself, you will meet our new tenured faculty and a new simulation lab director who is happy to return to her Midwestern roots. You’ll also read about CON faculty member, Maria Graf, who has a cultural perspective in nursing after immigrating to Oshkosh from Peru 16 years ago.

Rounding out the issue are intriguing News and Notes, details on a new scholarship honoring a retired faculty member and CON’s always-impressive Points of Pride.

What makes me proud to be in the field of nursing is that I get to work alongside respected professionals who care deeply about excellence and the greater good, and are trained to protect the well-being of our societies through rigorous education and collaborative scholarly and clinical practices.

As Dean, one of my goals is to actively communicate and celebrate the critical roles that our faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the college play on a day-to-day basis. Please consider following UWO CON on social media (UWOshkoshCON for Facebook, Instagram or Twitter) and stay connected in-person at UWO, college and alumni events.

I am looking forward to celebrating more achievements together.
