The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is one of the best schools for military service members and veterans in the state, according to newly published rankings by Military Times.
UW Oshkosh landed at No. 2 in Wisconsin and No. 98 nationwide among public schools in the 2022 Best for Vets: Colleges rankings. The list is the result of a survey of more than 300 schools that answered more than 70 questions about their services and programs specific to military students, whether active duty, veteran or families and dependents of service members.
Student success metrics like completion, retention, persistence and GPA were the top factors in the rankings, followed closely by the range of military-specific resources and offered financial assistance. Admissions and registration policies, human resources and assorted other considerations also were factored in.
Being recognized is a great honor, said Aaron Kloss, UWO Veterans Resource Center coordinator, but it’s the observable day-to-day impact that’s always the most rewarding.
“We strive to train our student workers to be knowledgeable and compassionate and to create a welcoming environment where any student would feel comfortable coming in seeking assistance or a place to belong,” Kloss said. “Our staff continuously provides top tier service and guides as many students as possible through the challenges associated with military life and their transitions to campus.”
UWO also ranked No. 17 out of more than 50 schools in the Midwest. Among the specifics mentioned about the University, the Veterans Resource Center and its comprehensive support office with a mission of providing essential veterans educational benefits information, certifying veteran programming and campus and community resources coordination were cited.
