“Celebrate the King” is the theme for the  7 p.m. May 7 Divine Voices of the Valley Gospel Choir concert at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Music Hall, 1001 Elmwood Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by African American Studies and directed by Alphonso Simpson, the 32-member choir is comprised of UWO students, faculty and staff as well as local high school students and community members. The choir, which contributes to the cultural, educational and spiritual life of participants, provides fundamental gospel vocal training.

To get involved with the choir for the 2023-34 academic year, the first practice will be held 6-9 p.m. Sept. 12 in Room N28 of the Arts and Communication building. UWO students are encouraged to register for the one-credit course, MUS 109, Heritage Gospel Choir.
