John Koker, College of Letters and Science (COLS) dean, has announced the creation of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Office for Governmental Studies.

The new Office is aligned with the University’s mission: “…sharing our intellectual and specialized capabilities with individuals, organizations and communities in our Wisconsin region and beyond in a way that is responsive to the needs of the people we serve.”

The office’s director, Professor Craig Maher in the Masters of Public Administration Program, has been working with the COLS Dean’s office on a collaborative effort with UW Oshkosh, the UW-Extension’s Local Government Center, the Wisconsin City/County Managers Association and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities.

The result of this initial effort will be performance management training materials, data collection and analysis, and information dissemination to local governments throughout the state.  This work also is part of national efforts to improve performance management understanding in government. Maher has been involved with the initiative though the National League of Cities, Urban Institute and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
