“Polishing Your Resume,” a free career webinar for all University of Wisconsin Oshkosh alumni and students, will be held 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16.

The webinar, sponsored by the UW Oshkosh Alumni Relations Office in partnership with UW Oshkosh Career Services, is the final webinar in an initial series of three presentations designed to assist UW Oshkosh  graduates in finding employment.

“The Alumni Relations Office is committed to meeting the lifelong career needs of our alumni,” said Alumni Relations Director Chris Gantner. “Several years ago, we formed a partnership with the Career Services Office and hired alumni career adviser Frank Holmes who meets with alumni 20 hours a month.”

Holmes, who will present the “Polishing Your Resume” webinar, will address customizing resumes, meeting employers’ needs, writing effective bullet points, creating resume sections, types of resumes, and the process of submitting applications.

“Alumni greatly benefit from webinars because they can participate on their own time from a remote location or utilize the recorded version. Students also can attend the webinar to supplement other career services and to become more familiar with Career Service’s offerings,” said Angela Victor, Career Services marketing and communications manager.

The alumni webinar series was developed, in part, in response to results of a March 2009 alumni survey that revealed UW Oshkosh alumni desired more career assistance from their alma mater.

UW Oshkosh Alumni Relations maintains Alumni Association and Mentor Network groups on LinkedIn.

Alumni can take part in these professional social networking options, as well as Career Fair on the Fox in Kolf Sports Center from 1 to 5 p.m., Sept. 27. In addition, Career Services’ newly designed website is an excellent resource for alumni.

“The webinars are an additional service especially designed for alumni who are not able to physically visit the campus. We are pleased to be able to meet that need,” Gantner said.

Alumni can gather information, interact live with the campus community and get immediate responses to pressing questions.

Due to the interest and participation in the first webinar series, Alumni Relations and Career Services will present another series during the 2011-2012 academic year, “Building your Professional Development Portfolio.”

The series will include three webinars:

• Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, 6-7 p.m. Titan Jobs for UW Oshkosh Alumni
• Tuesday, January 10, 2012, 6-7 p.m. Human Resources Panel: Ask the Experts
• Thursday, April 26, 2012, 6-7 p.m. UW Oshkosh LinkedIn Groups/Mentor Network
