Stuck on sentence structure? Problems with prepositions? Pay the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Writing Center a visit to help solve any interim and summer session writing struggles.

Located in the basement of Radford Hall, the Writing Center doesn’t just proofread papers, it helps students understand and learn how to write more effectively.

Trained tutors work to help students identify and understand grammatical, stylistic and structural problems in their writing.

“We offer free, individual writing assistance to any student,” said Crystal Mueller, Writing Center director. “We provide an opportunity for students to get feedback on their ideas and identify their strengths and weakness.”

Many students come to the center for help constructing theses to ensure that they are using correct documentation or to make sure they are following assignment guidelines.

“We see students at all writing levels and abilities,” Mueller said. “We offer help for any course, not just for English courses.”

Feedback from students who use the center has been very positive. The following are examples of student feedback from a Writing Center survey:

“The tutor really helped me understand mistakes I make repeatedly and explained how to avoid and fix them. It wasn’t just showing me what was not correct and sending me on my way, she really helped me understand and showed me how to make the adjustments without affecting my content.”

“The tutor was extremely helpful and friendly. My paper will be much better as a result of meeting with the tutor.”

The writing center will be open throughout the summer during the following hours:

  • Monday: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 9 a.m.-noon
  • Wednesday: 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
  • Thursday: noon-3 p.m.
  • By appointment

Starting in fall 2009, the Writing Center will have office hours in Breese residence hall to make its services more convenient for students.
