The following minutes in brief were submitted by the Faculty Senate:

At the Feb. 2, 2010, meeting of the Faculty Senate, Senator Simmons gave a brief report from the Provost Administrative Staff meeting. Provost Earns presented the Academic Program plan, along with supporting initiatives, to the Senate and asked the Senate to review the original plan and provide feedback by the end of the semester.

The Integrated Marketing and Communications team made a short presentation of their current ongoing projects and future directions. Feedback from the Senate involved the need for improvement of communication for campus events. The Senate approved the response to the UW System Textbook policy memorandum.

The Senate approved re-tabling consideration of the approval of Business 111 as a new course until our next meeting. The Senate approved the following committee appointments: Jeff Kaplan (COLS) — Institutional Review Board; Michelle Fleming (COEHS) and Sarinda Taengnoi (COB) — Equity and Affirmative Action Council. In items from members, Senator Dempsey (CON) volunteered to join the search and screen committee for the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement. The Senate approved Michelina Manzi, Leona Dempsey and Christy Brazee to serve on the search and screen committee for the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement.

Senator Wacholtz gave the results of the reapportionment process, with FAPA in COLS picking up a seat and Math in COLS losing a seat. Concerns about the tardiness of the dissemination to the faculty of their SOS results were raised. Provost Earns will look into it for the Senate. Senator Garrison voiced concerns about recently released numbers regarding student performance and would like to have a discussion of what the numbers mean and directions the University can take to address any outstanding issues.
