The dream of wearing a prom dress will come true for area high school girls, as Project Prom Girl continues to collect donated dresses for those in need.

Project Prom Girl, sponsored by the UW Oshkosh Women’s Center in conjunction with Women’s History Month, provides prom dresses as well as workshops to high-school aged girls. The workshops, which aim to build self-esteem, and a luncheon will take place April 9 in the Women’s Center.

Project Prom Girl Coordinator Erika Kiley said last year’s event attracted eight local students. This year, the project has been expanded, and Kiley hopes to see 25 to 30 participants. In the meantime, donations of contemporary formal dresses and monetary donations are being collected to cover expenses such as dry cleaning. Volunteers also are needed to assist with the event.
