University of Wisconsin Oshkosh assistant criminal justice professor Jason Vaughn Lee died unexpectedly Jan. 17.

Lee joined the UW Oshkosh faculty in 2014 and specialized on policing and police administration. He taught a wide variety of classes in criminology, crime causation and policing. His scholarship included research on potential consequences of racially-biased policing as well as policy-oriented studies of citizen perceptions of law enforcement and homeland security. He was also involved in a study on the sexist imagery and sexualized violence as portrayed in video games.

Lee’s colleagues describe him as a “quiet, but wonderful young man.”

Prior to pursuing his degrees in criminal justice and public administration, Lee attended film school and earned a degree in film from New York University. During that time, Lee was an intern for Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect, which was airing on ABC at the time.

“This is a very sad loss for the College of Letters and Science (COLS),” COLS Dean John Koker said. “Jason was an important member of the COLS community, and, on its behalf, I send condolences to Jason’s family, students, colleagues and friends.”

Condolences can be sent to Lee’s family:
