Jean Peterson, a lecturer in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Department of Mathematics since 1995, died on August 12. Having taught primarily for the Developmental Mathematics Program, she has been described as a valued colleague and an effective and patient instructor.

College of Letters and Science Dean John Koker, a math colleague and former chair of the department, said she was known to create a relaxed and friendly learning environment, one that was particularly conducive to helping incoming students strengthen their math skills.

“Jean was dedicated to teaching and to helping students who were wary of math to raise their comfort level. She had a positive attitude and a strong commitment to the success of her students,” Koker said.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items and campus announcements to UW Oshkosh Today.
