Brenda Moss, front desk manager in the Admissions Office at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, has been named the recipient of the December 2017 STAR Award.

She was nominated by Melanie Cross, public relations director for the Admissions Office.

Moss’s nomination follows:

“I am honored to have the opportunity to nominate Ms. Brenda Moss, admissions front desk manager, as a recipient of the UW Oshkosh STAR Award. Moss started in admissions during our busiest time of year: summer tour season. During these few months, we welcome more than 900 students and their families to campus. With only a week and half of cross training, and no assistance from a second front desk position, Moss managed the chaos and led us to a very successful summer tour season.

“Since that time, Moss has only continued to serve the University with excellence. The front desk manager position is critical to the success of admissions operations. In her role, Moss maintains two phone lines, answers thousands of emails from prospective students, coordinates campus visits and assists in training and supervision of a team of student employees. Because of staffing issues and changes, she has had to do most of this work over the last seven months alone.

“Despite working in a ‘bubble’ under high stress situations, Moss maintains an exceptionally positive attitude and provides a welcoming environment not only for our guests, but for the staff as well. She has gone above and beyond more times than I can even recall and works hard to make sure that the counselors have the information they need to work successfully. She comes in early during busy times to give other staff additional time to work on projects, like processing applications to the University. She always makes sure that information is correct and takes extra time on the details, which add up over time and makes things in the office run significantly smoother.

“In regards to welcoming visitors to campus, Moss is always smiling and willing to help anyone who calls or stops by the office; even if it isn’t something we normally work with. Admissions is notorious for receiving inquiries about everything from financial aid, to where professors are located, to where student clubs are meeting; and Ms. Moss helps every single student get the information they need. She believes very strongly that her role is to serve the students of this University, and she lives out that value every day in her work.

“In the time Moss has been in our office, she has already made a huge impact for the better. She is incredibly talented at her job, always provides exceptional customer service, and works every day to make sure all of our students are taken care of and valued. She handles every situation with grace and humility. She is truly a representation of what it means to be a UW Oshkosh Titan: tenacious, smart, compassionate, inclusive and a true leader.  I have been nothing short of impressed, day in and day out, with her ability to make this University shine a little brighter each day.”
