The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Athletics Department, in conjunction with the UW Oshkosh Women’s Center, hosted “Pack the Stands” at the Titans women’s basketball game against UW-Whitewater, Feb. 7, in honor of National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).

NGWSD was a day to celebrate the extraordinary achievements in girls’ and women’s sports and the positive influence athletic participation brings to their lives. NGWSD recognizes the ongoing effort towards equality and access for women in sports and the nation’s commitment to expand sport and participation opportunities for all girls and future generations.

“Women didn’t always get to participate in athletics and it should be celebrated and encouraged,” said Kelly McNiff, UW-Oshkosh assistant women’s basketball coach.

In honor of the 32nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, all females wearing athletic uniforms or team gear received free admission to the game. Fans also had the opportunity to create signs, showcasing why sports are important to them. Clash and UWO Titan tattoos were available and the first 500 UW Oshkosh students went home with a Titan fleece scarf.
