Ten University of Wisconsin Oshkosh students earned awards at the 25th-annual Celebration of Scholarship and Creative Activity in April.

The Outstanding Graduate Research and Creative Activity award was presented to:

  • Klaire Laux, of Menasha, a biology major with a microbiology emphasis,  for her study,  Assessing the Clinical Relevance of Fungal Genotype in Blastomycosis Infections, with faculty mentor Stephen Bentivenga.
  • Molly Schumacher, of Oshkosh, a doctor of nursing practice candidate, for her study,
    The Impact of the YMCA LIVESTRONG Program for Cancer Patients and Survivors, with faculty mentor Paula McNiel, Nursing.

The Outstanding Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Award was given to:

  • Karsen Daus, of Suamico, a senior majoring in geology, for Subadult Tyrannosaur Feeding Traces on a Partial Hadrosaurid Skeleton, with faculty mentor Joseph Peterson.
  • Alyssa Herman, of Omro, an English major with a linguistics minor, for Realms of Love: Gender and Language Fluidity in Tennyson’s In Memoriam, with faculty mentor Pascale Manning.
  • Nicholas Pierson, of Appleton, a junior double majoring in interdisciplinary media arts and graphic design, Programmable Painting, with faculty mentor Gail Panske.
  • Edward Uttendorfer, of Fond du Lac, a junior majoring in music composition, for Saxophone Quartet in Stereo, with faculty mentor John Mayrose.

The Clow Social Science Undergraduate Award went to two seniors majoring in psychology:

  • Blair Braun, of Appleton, Generalization Abilities of Infants During Word Learning, with faculty mentor Sarah Kucker.
  • Amy Hodel, of Omro, for The Effects of Diurnal Variability and Modality on False Memories Formation, with faculty mentor Justyna Olszewska.

WiSys Quick Pitch winners included: first place, Jeshanah Zolkowski, of Neenah, a senior majoring in chemistry and mathematics, for Mathematicians Inside Your Body; and second place, Madeline Hass, of Neenah, a sophomore majoring in German, history and philosophy, for Suicide in the Paradigm of Indefinitely Extended Life; and people’s choice prize, Laux.
