LEADERS

  • On June 29, the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley and UW-Fond du Lac became campuses of UW Oshkosh after the UW System restructure plan was approved by the Higher Learning Commission. (Read more on pages 6-7.)
  • Faculty named to the UW System Wisconsin Teaching Fellows and Scholars program for 2018-2019 include Kayoung Kim, assistant psychology professor on the Fond du Lac campus; Rachel Knighten, associate world languages professor on the Fox Valley campus; and Carey Woodward, associate physics and astronomy professor on the Fond du Lac campus.
  • The UW Oshkosh Alumni Association Board recently began work for the 2018-2019 academic year. The slate of officers includes: Amanda Betts-Regina ’10 (far left front), of Milwaukee, president; Brooke Tabbert ’04 (second from left front), of Menomonee Falls, vice president; Matt Eldred ’08 (far right back), of Oshkosh, secretary; and Kevin Jaklin ’85 and ’95 MBA (third from right front), of Green Bay, treasurer.
  • National Exchange Bank awarded $50,000 to the UW-Fond du Lac Foundation in February to establish an endowed fund to support scholarships for low-to moderate-income students attending the Fond du Lac campus.

RESEARCHERS

  • New research led by Oshkosh campus associate anthropology professor Stephanie Spehar, which appeared in the June issue of the journal Science Advances, reexamined how 70,000 years of human interaction shaped the orangutan, an icon of wild nature.
  • The Harvard Business Review recently featured research about gender salary differences in the workplace led by Oshkosh campus economics professor Benjamin Artz. The study found that women ask for raises as often as men, but are less likely to receive them.
  • Fond du Lac campus sophomore Grace Hudson, a psychology major from North Fond du Lac, is researching young children’s use of prepositions as part of collaboration between the campus and the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac.
  • Oshkosh campus senior biology major Phillip Gruber, of Oshkosh, spent the summer studying how human noises impact birds at feeders throughout the Fox Valley.

CHAMPIONS

  • Following a stellar four-year career with the Titans, alumna Robyn Elliott ’17, is chasing her goals as a member of the Milwaukee Torrent, one of 100 clubs in the Women’s Premier Soccer League worldwide.
  • The Chamber Choir ensemble, conducted by choral director and composer Eric Barnum, performed in June on one of the most prestigious concert stages in the world, Carnegie Hall in New York City.
  • The UW Oshkosh athletics department celebrated strong success in the classroom. The Titans finished with an overall department cumulative grade-point average of 3.075, higher than the general student population for the first time since 1999-2000. It also had 331 student-athletes named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association Scholastic Honor Roll.
  • The Model United Nations team won Outstanding Delegation Awards in the spring at the National Model United Nations for the 34th consecutive year. The Oshkosh campus community then mourned the loss of longtime Model UN team adviser and international studies coordinator Kenneth Grieb, who died July 13.
