The American Association of University Women (AAUW) awarded a $550 scholarship to Emily Chaltry of Fond du Lac High School. Presenting the scholarship were Valerie Graczyk, UW-Fond du Lac Continuing Education interim director and Dolores Mick, president of the Fond du Lac AAUW. The scholarship was open to former GEMS (Girls Engineering Math Science) conference participants declaring a STEM major at Marian University, MPTC or UW-Fond du Lac.

Chaltry is a high school senior planning to attend UW-Fond du Lac in the fall and earn a degree in biology. She has attended three GEMS one-day conferences which are held in the fall for middle school aged girls. She has also been a GEMS volunteer.

“Attending GEMS conferences throughout middle school strongly rooted my belief that I could do anything with my life,” said Chaltry.“There are millions of successful women in STEM fields and there is no reason why I cannot be another one with my love for science.”
